I recently purchased some "powerkraut" at the Willie St. Co-op for 9 bucks a jar. It was delicious and amazing and made me feel really energetic, but I realized I could make it myself and save some money.
Fermented vegetables are rich in nutrients, fiber and digestion-enhancing enzymes. They also help the intestinal tract maintain a healthy balance of flora by increasing beneficial bacteria.
No wonder I loved the stuff so much and I guessed they named it "powerkraut" because it is so full of nutritional richness.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I cut up a bunch of cabbage, added salt and some sea vegetables(optional) and I put it in a jar with a lid. I left the kraut at room temperature for 4 days with the lid on. After the fourth day, I put it in the fridge. The results were beautiful and the Kraut tasted just like the stuff I paid 9 bucks a jar for. Try it to believe how awesome it is!
I just purchased the new EY DVD. It is so great. I love the sequences and Jon and Jessica do such a great job on the partner feedback section. I appreciate how concise each section is. The poses flow very nicely together. The 12 minute opening section is great to do when you wake up in the morning, for example. I also enjoyed the lake mendota background!! I woke up with pain in my neck and shoulders again and decided to try the DVD sequences. I loved the warrior sequence and how it ends with Warrior 3. I basically released 99% of pain in my neck and woke up the next day feeling 100% EY is so effective. This DVD is also a great X-mas gift!!!
Thanks to Jon, Jessica, and others who made the EY DVD!
This is a really great thread. I also run into this problem. I do the body power classes and the fit classes in the morning. However, I also train capoeira and enjoy doing yoga. Sometimes I do 2 a days (body power plus capoeira) and wonder if it is too much. So, by Wednesday, i usually crash about 7pm because Im too sore and exhausted to even move. I hate taking days off, but when I do, I feel more motivated the next day. It is hard to fit in capoeira training, though, because i tend to prioritize the MBG workouts because I find them much more fulfilling (just not as fun!).
However, I really appreciate Brad's point about the flexibility of these workouts. I've been training capoiera outside and doing lighter sets, which is much more fun and easier to keep up with. I feel you, though, with not really knowing how much is too much or if what you are doing is not enough and even how to fit it all in. I sometimes wonder, too, if the classes at the gym are much easier and shorter than what Jon and the other trainers actually do. I just am set on this old school mentality that you have to spend hours and hours at the gym to get stronger. What I've noticed about these workouts, though, is that they are short, sweet, and extremely satisfying. So, I can see and feel my progress each week.
Thanks for the response, Jon. I will for sure dig the DVD and keep doing prone mountain. I do notice that when I do eischens yoga right when I wake up, it makes a huge difference w/shoulder and neck pain for the rest of the day. So, the motivation to keep doing it is simply that it works and the results are immediate. Thanks!
Dear Yoga experts,
I've been having a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders (especially my left shoulder) and Im wondering if it might have something to do with the way I am sleeping at night. I sleep on my left side. Im wondering if this position is putting too much pressure on my left shoulder because I wake up and feel tension and pain in my neck and shoulder.
I also noticed how great those kneeling chairs are with no back for posture and wonder if y'all recommend any particular brand.
Here is my question:
1) what does Eischens yoga suggest about the best sleeping alignment possible?
2) What yoga positions would be best for this area of tension in the neck and shoulders?
Brian,
Thanks for checking into that for me. I was spoiled in Brazil when I lived in a capoeira saturated area and I found people everywhere to train with. I need to get Jessica's contact info asap, she would be a great training partner! Is she on the buddy board??? JESSICA.....are you out there?????
Anne
I've heard rumors some of you do capoeira. Is there anyone at the MBG who wants to get together and train some upside down + inverted stuff, kicks, and game play....capoeira, that is.
